The lucky purple pencil

Dreaming is believing
Today we faced Hamble who are top of the league. They came into our arena at St Vincent to face the Mighty Warriors known as Gosport ladies first team, and I think I am right in saying they probably expected an easy day, but this is what happened.
Match report by Emily Simpson.
As ever we had a positive outlook on the game as we have nothing to lose, we had a number of young ladies step up to help us out. Our illustrious leader Rachel Egbert gave us an inspiring team talk, and into battle, we went. We had 14 players today which made a massive difference. The game started and we passed the ball well using the sides as instructed, the ball was passed up towards Jo and Anya. Hamble managed to get the ball back and quickly broke, but the defence did their Job with Carole aka Robin, Charlie and Keri talking all the time and stopping them. Hamble managed got the ball back and Emily aka Batman, slid out and got the ball away but only to one of their players. The ball was played back in, but so hard it got through Robin and Rachel on the line. We returned to our positions and went again, Ash stopped the ball and hit it across to Gemma L, and then up to Izzi the link in play between them was amazing. The ball came into the D and Anya had a swipe but unfortunately couldn't connect. The ball came back with Hamble pushing hard down the left Alyssa had been paired up against and extremally fast player the ball was back in our D and expecting the ball to be passed across the D the Hamble player hit at goal and caught Batman off guard and with her legs not quite long enough the ball sneaked in. We started again it was coming to the end of the half, and after a few short corners, they got another one after Batman jumped out of the way of Charlie and apparently backed into a Hamble player. Hamble was awarded another short but after so many “we've got their number” the ball was played and saved but again quick on the rebound the ball got past and into the goal it went. The half ended 0-3.
Half time chat and considering Hamble are top we were holding our own. The start of the second half Gemma passed to Georgia and had some fantastic link-up play with Daisy and Donna we broke into their D a few times. The younger legs definitely making a difference, with that said Donna sprinting through the centre was amazing. The defence had a great start to the second half with Batman's saves, Robins commitment, throwing herself on the floor, Charlies stops and Kerri's big hits we stopped everything. We had the ball Donna, and her super-fast legs took Hamble by surprise, and their keeper slid out but not for the ball, we got a flick WHOOP WHOOP. Who else but our very own Georgia stepped up and only went and scored. The game started again, and with our new-found lease of life, Hamble broke into the D and Ash thought she was at football kicking the ball off the line. Batman in goal for the flick, Hamble stepped up against Batman who saved the flick. With 17 minutes left the pressure was on Hamble in the last ten managed to get two more goals. What an incredible game though thank you to all those that stepped up and welcome to Alyssa who had a great game against a very fast player.
321s’ winner Batman
DOD was Ash for the own goal and giving away of a P-flick which I didn't even realise.
Thank you to the player from Hamble for helping Charlie out towards the end of the game, our spectators and Simon for umpiring.
