Odd socks?!

? MATCH REPORT: GOSPORT 2–1 BOURNE TO WIM ?

Odd socks, excellent hockey and three points!

Gosport arrived ready for battle… or so they thought. Badmin from Katie Pond meant we’d turned up in the wrong socks! ? Thankfully, Bourne to Wim and Pip’s seemingly endless bag of spare socks came to the rescue, helping us scramble together a collection of odd socks for the squad. With the sock situation sorted, the team gathered for the pre-match shout, which sounded suspiciously more like “odd socks” than “Gosport”. And with that, we were off!

From the first whistle, Gosport took control, with Anne, Lauren, Sam and Pip pulling the strings in midfield. Lovely passing hockey saw the ball distributed confidently left and right, keeping Bournemouth on their toes.

Despite Gosport’s early dominance, it was Bournemouth who struck first, finding the net somewhat against the run of play halfway through the first half. But Gosport didn’t panic, continuing to play their hockey and creating chances of their own, with Ali and Amanda both coming agonisingly close to finding an equaliser.

The breakthrough finally came courtesy of some excellent play down the right-hand side between Lauren and Katie, finished off beautifully by Pip to bring Gosport level!

Bournemouth proved strong at the back, with some dangerous long balls finding their way through to the forwards. Maz, Scores, Katie Juckes and Kerri dealt with most of the threats, but when the defensive line was broken, Jolene was in outstanding form between the posts, making several incredible saves. The standout moment came from a fiercely struck short corner that she somehow managed to keep out. Absolute class!

After a rallying half-time team talk from Maz, Gosport came out for the second half determined to get the job done. The passing was beautiful, the movement was sharp, and Gosport continued to dominate.

The winning goal was a real team effort! Sam Mitchell and Katie Juckes worked the ball brilliantly down the left before it was switched across to Lauren and Kerri on the right, eventually finding Zoe perfectly positioned in the D. With the shout of “BACK POST!” ringing out, Zoe laid the ball off beautifully for Katie Pond to get the decisive touch and make it 2–1 to Gosport! ?

Bournemouth had a few busy spells and continued to threaten, but Gosport remained strong at the back while creating several more chances of their own, coming agonisingly close to extending the lead.

The final whistle confirmed a well-deserved 2–1 victory for Gosport!

A fantastic team performance, some lovely hockey, a brilliant goalkeeping display and three points in the bag. Who knew odd socks were the secret to success!!
