After we'd dodged the sprinkler system and managed a 5 min warmup the game started later than scheduled and Gosport for the first 10 mins looked like we hadn't played for a week! But it didn't take long to start applying the pressure and we took advantage of every sideline ball and every free hit to catch them off guard. Amanda took a sideline ball deep in the 23, skillfully took it 5 (and a bit more) and then passed into the D to Parrott who kept it down and then launched it into the netting for the one and only goal of the game. So now it was defend and take every advantage of the ball in their 23. It was clear Basingstoke knew how to press a 16 so they were rather more difficult to break through. But both teams realised if they wanted to get through the midfield they needed to go wide. With the defenders confidence getting stronger with each 16 the ability to get it out to the fast wingers (?!) who managed to out run those midfielders and higher defenders to have several attempts at goal. With some sideline support from our young 'manager' (also mistaken once as an umpire) with more eagle eyes than us, a few fast balls made their way to the D, with no feet involved (there was a lot of footwork from both sides) so Parrott and Sam had opportunities to score but Basingstoke's Goalkeeper kept quite a few out of the goal and kept them in the game. Basingstoke came out stronger and more determined in the second half but despite plenty of opportunities themselves to score, it wasn't their day. Some umpiring decisions didn't go our way or theirs, which frustrated both sides but everyone enjoyed the game overall the ladies are delighted to add 3 points. Special mention to player 101 and their super goalkeeper.
