All,
A busy weekend of fantastic results, opportunities and challenges ahead.
The Women's 1XI played their last game last weekend against a strong Petersfield which didn't go their way despite tremendous hard work but the result was reversed by the league and given in favour of the Gosport ladies, quite rightly and took them top on equal points with Havant but with a huge goal difference advantage. Thanks to all those involved in their success this season and a well deserved celebration for them at the end of the month. Two seasons and two promotions, can't get better than that..... South Division 3 look out.
The Men's 1XI also achieved promotion coming third in their division taking them to South Division 2 next season, all their hard work and coaching support has paid off. But also they have an opportunity to win the Hampshire Trophy because they took Fareham on in the semifinal and won 2-5 away from home, an opportunity for some silverware - watch this space.
The Men's 1898 haven't finished their league games yet with one game left on 26 Apr, at home at 1030 so please support them to secure their second place in Solent Division 1 against Haslemere Hockey Club.
Men and Women 2XIs have really grown as teams this season and start their summer break knowing they put everything into their seasons and had some amazing results. The M2XI coming 7th out of 11 teams, super well done. The W2XI fought hard in a league that saw 2 large clubs pull teams out during the season, the ladies finished 8th - again well done.
Next season will be a huge opportunity to put us back on the hockey map but be under no illusions it will be a challenge, with a new Men's team and a Women's team being entered into the leagues and the volunteering challenges and team selections those will bring. Over the coming months will be a period to reflect on our strengths and identify any development opportunities before we start training again, which we might need to do earlier than normal. So set your hockey alarm clock for August not September and be ready to go out from the start and set that bar high, we know we can do it and now we have the stage on which to shine. A SurveyMonkey will be released shortly for you to have your say so please do engage with this, it's your chance to say what's on your mind and how you'd like to shape your Club for our future.
Hockey will continue, we have permission to use HMS SULTAN over the coming months and we will make every use of that, so if you'd like to arrange a friendly please contact your current Captain.
The AGM will be in July and the current committee have a lot of work in preparation for this, any willing volunteers who'd like to be a part of the committee next season please again speak to your Captain or the Club Captain Mike Higgins.
Have a great Easter break celebrating your successes however large or small, you're all stars some littler than others ;-) (A Coach Stu affectionate name for our youngsters).
