About Us

Gosport Borough Hockey Club (GBHC) is one of the founding members of Hockey in Hampshire. Gosport Hockey Club, as we were known then, along with six other Hampshire based clubs founded the Hampshire Hockey Association in 1898.

Due to unknown circumstances the club disbanded. Many years later in September 1990, Gosport Borough Hockey Club was reborn with the aid of Alan Walker / Dave Lewis / Ron James and Dave Lucas who was a councillor at the time.

Since those times the club has gone from strength to strength. It has seen many changes, moving our “home” pitch from HMS Sultan to our current venue at St. Vincent College and back again. After matches we meet at The Green Dragon, Rowner for teas.

GBHC aims to strengthen our position in the leagues for all our teams. The club is committed in supporting our youth section, and to provide opportunities in player, coaching and umpire development.

GBHC provides its members the opportunity to experience hockey in a safe, lively and friendly social atmosphere with a strong focus on families. The club will celebrate its 125th birthday in 2024.

Youth Section

The Club recognise that our Youth are part of our future. As a result, we invest heavily in this area and since January 2011 we have held Club Mark accreditation with England Hockey. This is national recognised accreditation process that ensures the appropriate Child Welfare, DBS and safeguarding policies amongst others are in place and that we are regularly checked by independent assessors to ensure the standards are maintained.

We hold regular training sessions for our youth section on Wednesday evenings from 1800-1900 and Saturday mornings from 0900-1000. On some Saturdays we encourage the parents to join in and get involved alongside their children in our Family Fun sessions.
In season 23/24 we have mixed U8, U10, 2 x boys U12, combined boys U14, boys U16 and girls U16 with Portsmouth HC playing competitive hockey in their respective leagues. The juniors play on Sundays.

Senior Section

Our senior section currently has 3 Men’s Teams and 2 Ladies Teams playing within the South Central Leagues. To recognise the link that the Club has to the foundations of hockey within Hampshire, one of our Men’s teams is known as the “1898’s”.

The Club is committed to strengthening our position in the leagues for all our teams. Qualified coaches lead and organise our training sessions for all Club members. All adult training runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays at HMS SULTAN 1900-2100. All adult teams play their South Central league matches on Saturdays.
